1 arrest, raids, and controlled explosion as police investigate Manchester bomb attack

At least 22 people died, some of them children, and 59 others were injured in an explosion at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, on Monday evening in what the police are treating as a terrorist attack.


US, Turkey dispute fighting in DC as ambassador summoned

Turkey’s action appeared to represent retaliation for the forceful U.S. criticism of the Turkish guards’ behavior in the American capital, where they accompanied President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his visit. The U.S. summoned Turkey’s U.S. ambassador last week after the Turkish security officers were seen hitting and kicking protesters outside the Turkish ambassador’s residence; one video shared on social media even showed Erdogan watching the melee.

Thomas Elsman on Saturday visited the site where 18-year-old Alyssa Elsman was killed.His daughter had been visiting New York City with her mother and younger sister when she was killed Thursday. Authorities said Bronx resident Richard Rojas drove his car through Times Square and onto a sidewalk, striking helpless tourists for three blocks, before crashing into protective barriers. Twenty-two people, included Alyssa Elsman’s younger sister, were injured.
